Peripheral Neuropathy — Upper Extremities — C&P Exam Preparation

Peripheral Nerves DBQ~30 minutes

Nerve damage in the hands and arms causing pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness. Commonly secondary to diabetes. Each arm is rated separately, with the dominant hand receiving a higher rating.

The examiner will test sensation in your hands and arms using monofilament, tuning fork, or pinprick tests.
Your grip strength and fine motor skills will be tested.
Reflexes at the wrist, elbow, and biceps will be checked.
You will be asked about numbness, tingling, burning, dropping things, and difficulty with buttons or zippers.
The examiner will note whether your dominant or non-dominant hand is affected — the dominant hand receives a higher rating.
