Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) — C&P Exam Preparation

Mental Disorders DBQ~60 minutes

A mood disorder causing persistent feelings of sadness and loss of interest. The VA rates depression using the same criteria as PTSD — based on how much it impairs your work and social functioning.

The examiner will ask about your mood, energy, motivation, sleep, appetite, and ability to enjoy things you used to like.
You will be asked how depression affects your work performance, relationships, and daily routine.
The examiner will observe your behavior, appearance, speech, and emotional responses during the interview.
You may be asked about suicidal thoughts — be honest. This information helps determine the severity of your condition.
The exam follows the same format as a PTSD exam because both use the General Rating Formula for Mental Disorders.
