Knee Instability (Subluxation) — C&P Exam Preparation

Knee and Lower Leg DBQ~30 minutes

Looseness or giving way of the knee joint. Unlike range of motion codes, instability is rated based on severity (slight, moderate, severe) rather than degrees of motion. It can be rated separately from flexion/extension limitations.

The examiner will physically test your knee ligaments by pushing and pulling on the joint in different directions.
Common tests include the anterior drawer test, Lachman test, and varus/valgus stress tests.
You will be asked how often your knee gives way, buckles, or feels unstable.
The examiner will rate your instability as slight, moderate, or severe.
Range of motion will also be tested during the same exam appointment.
