GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) — C&P Exam Preparation

Esophageal Conditions DBQ~20 minutes

Chronic acid reflux where stomach acid flows back into the esophagus. As of May 19, 2024, GERD may be rated under the new DC 7206 (diseases of the esophagus) or by analogy under DC 7346 (hiatal hernia). The VA must apply whichever criteria are more favorable to the veteran.

The examiner will ask about your symptoms: heartburn, acid reflux, difficulty swallowing, nausea, and vomiting.
You will be asked how often symptoms occur and what makes them worse (food, lying down, stress).
The examiner will review your treatment: medications (PPIs, antacids), diet changes, and any procedures.
You will be asked about weight changes and overall health impact.
This is an interview-based exam with a review of your medical records.
