Your chronic UTIs have caused poor renal function from recurrent infections, documented by lab work showing declining kidney function.

What the VA looks for

Recurrent infections with documented renal impairment
Elevated creatinine or decreased eGFR
Imaging showing kidney damage from infections
Pyelonephritis (kidney infection) history
Nephrology referral or treatment

Common Pitfalls

⚠Not documenting every UTI episode with urine cultures — the rating depends on frequency, so each infection needs to be on record.
⚠Not connecting chronic UTIs to a service-connected cause such as catheterization, spinal cord injury, urinary retention from medications, or gynecological conditions.
⚠Not filing for secondary conditions caused by chronic UTIs — kidney damage, antibiotic side effects, and the impact on daily activities should be documented.
